Black Painting - Baghera and Moogly Avoiding Turmoil
2008
inkjet print, acrylic on canvas
130 x 100.5 centimeters
Unique

Invited to participate in a coloring book project made by artists, Pierre BISMUTH came up with a painting by number tending towards absurdity : all spaces were marked '1', and the color reference was '1 = black', hence offering kids a quick introduction to abstract painting. This idea is here blown up to the size of a painting and printed on canvas. The black paint makes the image difficult to read, yet the barely visible original black outlines and the brush strokes make it possible to recognise the figures of the drawing below.

acrylic on cut canvas
100 x 80 centimeters

Pierre BISMUTH sets a rule and cuts circles of a certain diameter from the canvas, taking away as much material as possible ; the circles removed accumulate on the ground. With a simple gesture, Pierre BISMUTH explores a new dimension of the canvas, also making his creation process visibale to the viewer.
