Les Débutantes is a new series from Claire TABOURET. For these new paintings, the artist was inspired by the Debutante Ball, a tradition from the nobility of the Ancien Régime. Fallen in disuse at the 20th century, this ritual of passage for high society girls at the beginning of their adult life has known a new dash in the 1990s. In her paintings, Claire TABOURET questions the self-determination and the singularity of each one of these young girls towards the group in which they belong. The young debutantes seem indeed linked to one another by the multiple interlacing of the dresses and draperies of the decoration. The eye goes from one character to the other while following the waves of textiles.
